Some companions work alongside a friend for their stomach’s sake, but in the heat of battle, they will shield themselves.
There is a companion who condoleth with his friend for his belly's sake, and he will take up a shield against enemy.
A real friend will help you against your enemies and protect you in the fight.
A good friend will fight with you against the foe, and against your enemies he will hold up your shield.
A good friend will help you for his stomach’s sake but will serve as your shield-bearer against your enemies.
Some companions help a friend for their stomachs’ sake, yet in battle they will carry his shield.
